Ground Zero
Fri Feb 17 - Sat Feb 18
Fri Feb 17 - Sat Feb 18
The point on the Earth’s surface closest to impact. The origin of rapid, intense, change. The very beginning and ending of time.
The outcome of a two-week creative development residency with some of Australia’s most exciting LGBTQIA+ artists with disability working in contemporary culture. A groundbreaking collaboration culminating in two supercharged nights of accessible performance. Be witness to lived-experience, a disability-led revolution starts today!
A program supported by the Access and Inclusion Panel of Brand X whose charter is to ensure authentic voices are represented in the cultural sector of Sydney. Ground Zero aims to give agency to professional artists with disabilities to present contemporary culture on their terms, from their perspective, without apology. Moving past the community model it embeds equality, so all artists have the space to create.
Drawing on shared lived experiences, artists are at the centre of the program. Multidisciplinary artists are provided with funding to build collaborators and support the development of short new performance works. Ground Zero will premiere these new ideas in front of a live audience as an act of self-defiance. Our job is to provide practical solutions to enable a nuanced approach to accessibility and inclusion. This is the first step to long-term change that will result in the voices of artists with a disability having exposure to Sydney’s stages, galleries and screens.
Ground Zero is supported by The Wales Family Foundation.
