Edison (ichon) Butar Butar (he/him)

Edison Butar Butar (Ichon) is the Coordinator Secretariat of the Crisis Response Mechanism (CRM) consortium. In CRM, he focuses on mobilizing resources to prevent and respond to the crisis against LGBTIQ+ in Indonesia. Besides serving in CRM, he is also an independent researcher and evaluator for LGBTIQ+ and gender-related issues.
Before joining CRM, he was the Program Manager of Arus Pelangi, the Indonesian LGBTIQ+ federation. He was also one of the co-founders of Cangkang Queer, the first LGBTIQ+ organization in North Sumatera Province in Indonesia in 2012.
He also produced research related to LGBTI, such as Situational Analysis of Transgender in Indonesia (2017), The Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on the Transgender Community in Indonesia (2019), Advocacy’s novel: Long Way Justice for the Transgender (2018) and Ethnography of Sexuality in Medan (2014).
