Sun Feb 19 - Thu Feb 23
Out & Loud has been celebrating LGBTQIA+ pride through song since 2001. Every three years choirs from all around Australia and their Indo-Pacific neighbours come together to share the joy of singing through workshops, performances and a massed choral event finale.
Now, to celebrate Sydney WorldPride in 2023, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir and Sydney WorldPride invite choirs and singers from all over the world to join them. Out & Loud & Proud welcomes LGBTQIA+ choirs and individuals to a five day celebration of community and singing. Enjoy a packed program of activities including:
- Welcome to Country and official opening
- Optional cruise around Sydney’s world -renowned harbour
- A program of workshops by some of Australia’s leading musical educators
- Pop-up performances in iconic Sydney locations
- Concert opportunities for participating choirs
- Social events discovering indigenous culture and Sydney’s queer locations
- A fabulous Festival Party
- A Gala Concert at the magnificent Sydney Town Hall.
The Individual Voices Choir led by Dr Kathleen McGuire rehearse together to present a program of songs at the Pop-up performances and the Gala.
Out & About takes the festival to the Inner West of Sydney, igniting the Enmore Road precinct with pop up performances in various pubs and bars by visiting with local choirs and performers.
The festival massed choir of around 500 singers premieres two special commissions; an Acknowledgement of Country by Nardi Simpson and the Festival Anthem composed by Joseph Twist with lyrics by Jazz Money.
