RIGHT HERE – STORIES FROM THE HEART is a creative development program for Trans, Gender Queer, Non Binary, Queer & Agender teenagers aged 15-18.
RIGHT HERE will equip Queer and Trans Youth with meaningful skills, connections, and experience valuable not only for their own careers but for their livelihood. To tell their stories, to be heard. We are looking for young people who have something they NEED to tell the world. We will provide them with the resources, support, and platform but it’s their space and moment to be heard.
Applications open in early November and anyone, no matter what your experience is, is welcome to apply. Applicants will be asked to supply an idea, story or concept that will later be devised into a five-minute performance. During the application stage, the idea doesn’t need to be fully formed – this is what the development program is for!
Eight participants will be selected to participate in two weekend in-person workshops over the course of two months. The workshops will be held at ATYP in Sydney and led by various established queer practitioners and artists. These workshops will be reflexive and dependent on what the participants need for their pieces. Over the workshop duration, there will be various online mentoring sessions to check on the progress of the pieces.
On the last weekend of Sydney World Pride participants will perform their stories in front of a live audience.
RIGHT HERE – STORIES FROM THE HEART is brought to you by the Australian Theatre for Young People, a company that has been empowering young people and centering their stories for nearly 60 years and produced by Claudia Bailey, a nonbinary filmmaker and the 2023 Wear it Purple Arts and Culture Fellowship Recipient.
