Kevin Haunui (he/him)

Kevin lives in Wellington, New Zealand with his partner James. He is Māori and takatāpui.
His career reflects a strong sense of social justice and improving outcomes for the marginalised communities with whom he identifies; Māori, Takatāpui, and Rainbow (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans Intersex, Plus) associated communities.
His current work projects include:
- an advisory role assisting with a National gathering for Takatāpui, LGBTI+, and allies to share, connect and inform
- engaging the community and men who have sex with men with a study that will inform policy on sexual health, and
- investigatory role working with indigenous people living with HIV to achieve good sexual reproductive health and rights
Kevin is a Trustee for Tīwhanawhana Trust, a Wellington-based national organisation that serves the Takatāpui (Māori LGBTI) community. He has represented at international LGBTI as an advocate for these fora to be inclusive and respectful of Takatāpui and other indigenous cultural views . He is also a trustee and Chair of the Lesbian and Gay Archives of New Zealand and Co-Chair of Community Governance Aotearoa Trust.
