Irene (Rinio) Symeonidou (she/her)

Irene (Rinio) Symeonidou (she/her) is a human rights advocate, activist and educator from Greece. She got involved with intersex activism after giving birth to an intersex child against medical press to abort, while also being a parental/educational activist focusing on the rights & inclusion of minority children. She is a founding member of “Intersex Greece”, and a member of “Rainbow School” for the inclusion of LGBTQI+ children in education. Irene raised the issue of Intersex Human Rights violations at the Greek Parliament (2017) and advocated for the bill that legally banned IGM in Greece (2022). She’s active in peer-support and institutional training on the rights/inclusion of intersex people in parenting, education, health, labour and citizenship, and she holds a B.A. in Studies in European Culture.
