Karel Teriihauroa Luciani (he/him)

Karel Teriihauroa Luciani is mā’ohi indigenous Tahitian. Now 57 years old, Terii was born to two parents of mixed mā’ohi, European and Chinese ancestry.
Terii is a Leader for the International Indigenous Working Group on HIV & AIDS (IIWGHA). Terii has been an activist for LGBTQIA+ rights for over 25 years, beginning in 1997 with the Homosphere association in New Caledonia. After 17 years of working in the Oceania region for regional organisations, and 4 years in France, today, in French Polynesia (mā’ohi nui), Terii is president of the LGBTQIA+ organization Cousins Cousines de Tahiti and president of local AIDS organization Agir contre le SIDA.
Terii is also Vice President of the regional organization Alliance LGBT+ Franco Océanienne and a senior ILGA Oceania board member (treasurer). Terii engages in HIV prevention activities through the various LGBTQIA+ and AIDS groups in which he holds posts.
