Rainbow Tunnels in Sydney’s Inner West

Petersham, Ashfield + Newtown
TfNSW

Three pedestrian tunnels in Sydney’s Inner West will be reimagined with rainbow lighting artworks by local LGBTQIA+ artists during WorldPride 2023, as part of a broader range of initiatives.

WorldPride puts Sydney firmly on the global stage as one of the world’s most progressive and inclusive cities.

The demonstration projects by three local artists at pedestrian tunnels in Newtown, Petersham and Ashfield will celebrate the local community to boost public space experience, convenience and safety for pedestrians.

The installations will be live from the 17th of February – 5th of March and are located at:

  • Petersham pedestrian tunnel (accessed via Trafalgar Street and Terminus Street)
  • Ashfield Station tunnel (accessed via Brown Street and Dengate Avenue)
  • Newtown pedestrian tunnel (accessed via Bedford Street and Trafalgar Street)

The projects are part of the Transport for NSW’s Safer Cities Program and The Festival of Place, a place-based, citizen-led, and multi-disciplinary festival that shines a light on the value of our great public spaces and the stories that enrich them.
