Sydney WorldPride Scholarship Program
Scholarship applications closed Sunday 18 September 2022, 11:59pm AEST.
Successful applicants will be notified by the end of October 2022.
The SWP International Scholarship program has received significant support from the Australian Government, through their Australian Aid program. A number of SWP Ticket Scholarships will be funded by Pride Foundation Australia, to create opportunities and accessibility specifically for LGBTQIA+ people with refugee experience in Australia to attend the Human Rights Conference.
The number of scholarships will depend on the variable cost of each participant (e.g. airfares), but we will try to provide as many scholarships as possible, hopefully about 100 across the three scholarship types.
If you are a successful international scholar, you will be given some time to apply for a visa, but please note that Sydney WorldPride cannot help you apply for your visa or passport. Please read the SWP International Scholarship Program Application Information Pack for more details.
The International Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a select group of the Human Rights Conference Community Partners and the SWP Human Rights Conference International Advisory Board (click here to learn more).
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship applications will be reviewed by members of the SWP First Nations Advisory Committee (click here to learn more) and First Nations representatives of the Human Rights Conference Community Partners (click here to learn more).
The SWP Ticket Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a select group of the Human Rights Conference Community Partners and the SWP Pride Committee (click here to learn more).
The International HRC Scholarship Program and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HRC Scholarship Program should cover the great majority of your costs to attend Sydney WorldPride. We ask you to provide details of any other funding you have received, as we don’t want to award scholarships to those who have already secured funding elsewhere.
The SWP Ticket Scholarship Program does not cover airfares, accommodation, or any other costs. If you are a recipient of the SWP Ticket Scholarship and you require support to travel to the conference, accommodation or a daily allowance, you will need to seek alternative funding to cover these expenses.
No. For the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HRC Scholarship Program and the International HRC Scholarship Program, Sydney WorldPride, (in partnership with the Scholarship Program organiser, AFAO) will book your flights, accommodation, travel insurance and tickets. You will also receive a daily allowance.
AFAO is the Australian Federation of Aids Organisations. Sydney WorldPride have partnered with AFAO to deliver the Scholarship Program because AFAO has delivered similar scholarship programs for other conferences.
Scholarship applications closed on Sunday 18 September 2022, 11:59pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).
We will start advising successful applicants mid to late October 2022.
