Inner West Council

The Inner West is the heart and soul of LGBTQIA+ culture in Sydney and the Council are thrilled to announce that Bedford Square is formally being renamed Pride Square.

The square will be officially launched during an event on 11 February 2023 where the new Newtown Beacon will be unveiled. Pride Square is located at 1A Bedford St, Newtown and the beacon will be the centrepiece, lit up for everyone to see.

The Inner West has a long and proud LGBTQIA+ history and Pride Square will be a centrepiece of Inner West Council’s celebrations for Sydney WorldPride.

Acknowledgement of country

Sydney WorldPride will take place on the lands of the Gadigal, Cammeraygal, Bidjigal, Darug, Dharawal people who are the Traditional Custodians of the Sydney Basin.

We pay our Respects to their Elders past and present. Always was Always will be Aboriginal Land.

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people come from many different clans and communities across Australia & in 2023 will come together as one, to celebrate with our global LGBTQIA+ community.
