Hubris & Humiliation
Fri Jan 20 - Sat Mar 4

Gay Pride (and Prejudice)
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a down-on-her-luck mother (who has just lost her home to a predatory catfish) must send her only son to Sydney to find and marry a wealthy man.
Jane Austen’s drawing rooms and country estates are switched out for the sweaty dancefloors and leafy avenues of post-plebiscite Sydney in Lewis Treston’s outrageously funny Hubris & Humiliation. This laugh-out-loud comedy combines a kaleidoscopic pastiche of Jane Austen’s writing with an outrageous satire of life in the Emerald City’s pumping gay scene.
Elliott, a naive wallflower from the Sunshine Coast, spends all his time pining for his best friend, until he’s unexpectedly packed up and shipped off to his fabulously wealthy uncle’s Kirribilli mansion to pick up a few dating tips, and bag the man of his (mother’s) dreams. A series of increasingly ludicrous and high-stakes events takes Elliott and his stowaway sister Paige from the rainbow mile, all the way to Berlin, and back again, in this high-camp exploration of love, family and commitment.
Helpmann Award-winning director Dean Bryant returns to STC with a hilarious cast for this fantastic and boisterous tale of one man’s search for his other half, and himself. It’s Muriel’s Wedding meets Kath & Kim with all the queer fabulousness of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, topped off with a charming nineteenth century twist.

Access to Door 3 is only on request and these requests should be made at the Box Office at the time of booking. Level access to Level 1 is via any of the three lifts along the exterior of The Wharf. Each of these lifts can be accessed via ground floor, however the lift at the end of The Wharf provides the most direct access.
The Wharf is Sydney Theatre Company's home base located in Walsh Bay. Alongside our administrative and creative areas, we have two theatres in which we present our work — Wharf 1 Theatre and Wharf 2 Theatre. Visitors to The Wharf can also soak in the sweeping views of Sydney Harbour at The Theatre Bar at the End of the Wharf. The Wharf can be reached by the 324 and 325 bus services. These bus routes stop outside The Wharf Theatres. Circular Quay railway station, bus and ferry terminus is the closest public transport hub. The Wharf is a brisk 15 minute walk from both Circular Quay and Wynyard stations. Limited on-street parking is available outside The Wharf on Hickson Road. Make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the performance starting time as it can take more than 10 minutes to park, get to the theatre and be seated in time. The area is also serviced by the following parking stations which offer cheaper night and weekend rates: Barangaroo Point Car Park (entry via Hickson Road) Barangaroo Reserve Car Park (entry via Towns Place) Bond One Car Park (Entry via 26 Hickson Road)
